Speakers: Marie Addison Torrans, PFP
In this hands-on session, Marie Addison Torrans, PFP, Managing Director and Charitable Gift Planning Officer for the United Way of South Hampton Roads Foundation, will share useful information on planned giving that you can put into practice now.
Marie Torrans joined the newly merged United Way of South Hampton Roads in 1985 where she currently serves as Managing Director and Charitable Gift Planning Officer for the United Way of South Hampton Roads Foundation. Her responsibilities include managing foundation operations and philanthropic business development strategy, donor services and charitable gift planning—internally and externally with 50+ non-profits, with missions ranging from global to local, individuals and corporations.
She formerly served as Director, Fund Distribution and Governmental Relations—overseeing the regional management of funds $10M to agencies and programs, certification of new agencies, legislative affairs, tax credits and exemptions, management consultation to include mergers, management contracts and special grant projects—including over 14 years of experience in non-profit management.
She holds a Bachelors degree from Radford College and a Master’s from Virginia Commonwealth University. She holds the designation of Professional Financial Planner from Old Dominion University and a certificate from the National Planned Giving Institute at the College of William and Mary. Marie was awarded a Barber B. Conable Fellowship for studies in public/private partnerships.
She is adjunct faculty at TCC and NSU—with a specialty in program, policy and fund development. She regularly presents at conferences and seminars and is widely published
in the philanthropic and human services field. Marie is a member of the Hampton Roads Estate Planning Council and was a charter member of AFP Hampton Roads.
